It is very important that my patients—and those who are considering seeing me—read this page for important details of my practice. This page contains contact information, information about the services I provide, my fees, and so on.
Note: All these services are now provided ONLY virtually (by video conferencing). I can see patients in person in my office in Newtown, PA, but only if I determine that an in-person evaluation is essential.
Phone: 201-R-MAGO-20 (201-762-4620)
Note: Email is not a secure method of communication. Please don’t send any confidential information by email.
My practice is different from other clinicians in that I charge based on my time and my fees for different services are as follows:
Initial psychiatric evaluation (25 minutes reviewing records and forms plus 75 minutes live meeting by video conferencing; fee $1050)
Shorter follow-up visits (25 minutes; fee $300). Over 90% of my patients do these shorter follow-up visits.
Longer follow-up visits (50 minutes; fee $600)
One-time second-opinion consultations (A total of three hours, which includes two hours in-person assessment, a review of records, written history, laboratory tests, etc, communication with family members and treating clinicians, and providing a written opinion about the diagnosis and recommended treatment. The fee is for all these services as a package: $1,800)
Important! As noted above, I charge based on my time. So, if any additional time is needed for reviewing records, filling out forms, contacting other doctors, and so on, I have to charge for that time as well at the rate of $150 per 15 minutes.
Insurance and fees
I do not participate in ANY health insurance.
Payment must be made either in advance or at the time of service. The following are accepted:
1. Electronic payment (details of how to do this will be provided)
2. Credit or Debit cards (Mastercard, Visa, American Express) and Health Savings Account cards (Mastercard and Visa only), are accepted at an additional fee since I have to pay the credit card company. Sorry, but this is unavoidable.
For the $750 payment, the additional fee is $25.
For the $600 payment, the fee is $20.
For the $300 payment, it is $10.
And, for the $1800 payment, it is $60.
If a credit or debit card is to be used, you can enter that information into our electronic system, Luminello, yourself. If you have difficulty doing that, you can ask Dr. Mago to do it for you.
Through your Luminello account, you can generate a billing statement for all charges and payments made. This billing statement will contain all the information that is needed including data of visit, procedure code, diagnosis, charges, payments made, Dr. Mago’s information, etc.
When the appointment for an initial evaluation is made, you will be sent an invitation to create an account on Luminello.com, the electronic medical record that I use.
Step 1: You will choose a password to make an account on Luminello.com.
Step 2: Enter your Profile information (address, date of birth, phone numbers, emergency contact, etc) into Luminello.
Step 3: Enter your credit card information to pay for the initial evaluation appointment. I charge for the initial evaluation in order to book the time for you. The charge will be refunded if you cancel at least seven days prior to the appointment. After that, the time is set aside specifically for you and the appointment cannot be changed or canceled.
Follow up appointments
The secure medical record system, Luminello, will send you a confirmation of the appointment and a reminder 48 hours in advance. If you do not get an email confirming your appointment, please let me know immediately so that I can make sure there is no error.
How the appointments work
My practice runs by appointment. The advantages of this are:
1. I don’t run late
2. My clients get the full benefit of their time with me, either 25 minutes or 50 minutes depending on the duration of the appointment.
Regarding missing an appointment, please note that I reserve a particular time for a particular person. So, if the person doesn’t come, I have to charge the full fee for that time slot anyway. I hope you will understand.
Canceling an appointment
I reserve a particular time for a particular person, I request at least 48 hours notice for cancellations. Otherwise, I have to charge the full fee for that time slot. I hope you will understand.
You may think that obtaining a prior authorization for a medication, if needed, from your health insurance requires just a quick phone call. Nothing could be further from the truth! Typically, it requires a long wait on the phone, then answering a lot of questions about the doctor and the patient that should be unnecessary, then transfer to someone else, then having to fill out a form. After one or two days, they will then fax their decision to us. Frequently, they will ask for “additional information” or deny the medication on some technicality. This then requires a repeat phone call. Because of all this, I have hired a person who deals with the insurance companies for me. As a result, we have to charge a small fee of $50 for working on obtaining a prior authorization.
